bodega restaurant & bar

Ever since my first visit, years ago, I’ve been a big fan of Bodega. To be honest I’ve been there so many times I’ve lost count. It’s well and truly a favourite.

One of the few places in Sydney doing fresh, creative Argentinian / Spanish tapas. And somewhere to get a fresh glass of fino sherry – you have to be happy with that.

loved

the open kitchen
watching the proprietors and chefs ben & elvis at work
the vibe – always buzzy without being ultra noisy
Tio Pepe Extra Dry Palimino Fino Sherry – it’s an acquired taste but once you get it there are few more satisfying aperitifs
beetroot, witlof, labna and orange salad
the chorizo
the empanadas

didn’t love

It can be tricky to get a table but in Summer when there are seats outside it’s not so much of an issue.

ate

argentinean style beef empanadas with salsa criolla
beetroot, witlof, labna and orange salad
warm salad of octopus, Spanish chorizo and kipfler potatoes
scallops with cabbage and morcilla
on previous visits have enjoyed the following:
marinated olives
white anchovies
spiced pumpkin and feta empanadas with yoghurt sauce
bodega chorizo with sofrito paste
piquillo peppers stuffed with bacalao
“fish fingers”: sashimi Kingfish on garlic toast with cuttlefish ceviche and mojama
salad of fried cauliflower, chickpeas and silverbeet

drank

tio pepe extra dry palimino fino sherry
ambar pale ale
castro martin albariño 2006,

value

excellent – about $70 for 2 + drinks

reservations

none taken but you can have a drink in the adjoining bar while you wait

perfect for

a fun tapas fix

I’ve literally JUST discovered your blog whilst looking for more deets on the commons and i’ve bookmarked for future eating reference. Bodega is my go to restaurant when we can’t think of anywhere new or just want to go back to a favourite – but I’m not sure that the bar area is open anymore? Last time we went, which was pretty recently, they’d extended their eating area into the bar. A bit of a catch 22 really!
