Ask anyone in Canberra the best cafe or bakery and I bet they’ll be steering you in the direction of silo bakery. With seriously good sourdough, almost-too-pretty-to-eat tarts, hearty pies, and rustic sandwiches, the biggest problem is deciding what to have.
loved
the rustic bread – almost as good as my all time favourite – iggys
the cute bottles that come as milk jugs
the eggs
the cheese room
the tempting pastries & tarts
the strong spicy loose leaf tea
didn’t love
the queue for bread & takeaway coffee
ate
guryere omelette
baked eggs with celery & walnut toast
on previous visits have enjoyed:
brioche with quince jelly
poached eggs with chilli jam, roasted tomato & sourdough toast
drank
English breakfast tea
value
good $35 for 2
reservations
taken but not essential
perfect for
leisurely world class breakfast or lunch

Right, where do I start? Service is appalling, and they are so full of their own importance lately that they don’t care. I had a very humiliating experience there once, emailed them a polite complaint and got no answer. Refused to go back. After a bit of community chatter recently on the subject of their bad service, I sent them another email, and still no reply. Sure their food (bread especially) is fabulous, but that is no reason to expect customers to accept disorganization, rudeness and neglect. Won’t go back.

wow. Thanks for your input. Goes to show how different everyone’s experience can be.
I’ve been a few times and haven’t had any problems with the service (although there was a long queue for takeaway coffee).
I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.
I’ll certainly be going back.
I’m very glad to hear that actually Jules, maybe the community chatter has given them a prod…I hope so, because I would love to go back if I could be assured of courtesy. Their rye sourdough is unsurpassed.
