shady pines

Imagine a bar called Shady Pines Saloon. What would it look like? Well I wouldn’t be surprised if the Shady Pines of your imagination comes close to the real thing. We’re talking a sub-terranean space with lots of wood and candle light.

We’re talking a stuffed rattlesnake and a beautifully road-worn parquetry bar. We’re talking an eclectic beer list of interesting local (Australian) gems. We’re talking whole peanuts in little wooden bowls that you shell yourself. We’re talking a bit of the wild west.

We’re talking ALOT of fun.

loved

the range of beers especially the Coldstream Bitter – very tasty local brew
the lighting
the funky decor
charming bar staff
the wine list – very impressive for a mainly beer & whiskey type of place

didn’t love

wandering aimlessly around darlinghurst alleyways trying to find the entrance

ate

peanuts – damn fines ones too

drank

Coldstream Bitter – very tasty local brew
Pieropan Soave
Magpie Estate ‘The Fakir’ Grenache
An ok-ish Pinot Noir

OK

reservations

not needed – although I suspect there are queues on fri/sat nights

perfect for
