about breadshoes

Welcome to breadshoes reviews – a blog that provides simple recommendations for food lovers – your modern companion to eating out.

Based in Sydney but willing to rove the globe in search of new dining and shopping experiences, the aim of bread shoes is to inspire you to explore the wonderful world of food.

From planning a trip to the other side of the world based on a restaurant reservation, to finding a new local hole-in-the-wall I hope to not only entertain with our adventures but help you make informed decisions about your eating and drinking [and food shopping] options.

about the title

You may be wondering why I called my blog breadshoes, and I’m glad you asked.

The blog actually began life as eat|shop|drink, a good descriptive name – but to be honest, a little on the boring side.

When a friend pointed out that there was another Sydney based blog called eat and drink, I decided to do a little research (that should have happened up front – rookie mistake). It was then that I discovered a London based design blog was already using eat|shop|dink.

Time for a new name.

Taking inspiration from the fact that my recipe blog, stonesoup is named after a fairy tale, I looked to the Brother’s Grim. Who knew there was a fairy tale called bread shoes? As a girl who couldn’t possibly decide whether she loves bread or shoes more, I knew I had my title.

BTW. I also uncovered a European store that sells real bread shoes online. You have to have a look. Don’t worry you won’t see me out on the town reviewing restaurants in a pair anytime soon.

about the author

Jules Clancy [thats me] is a full time food blogger and the type of girl who plans her holidays around restaurant reservations.

I’m a writer, photographer, food scientist, reformed winemaker, runner and aspiring minimalist. I live in Sydney.

I was fortunate enough to dine at elBulli in December 2009 – a superlative food experience that prompted the birth of breadshoes.

While discovering new places to eat and drink and buy ingredients is one of my obsessions, I also love spending time in my kitchen and have been blogging about my simple recipes over at stonesoup | minimalist home cooking since late 2005.

I’ve always loved the challenge of thinking up the perfect restaurant recommendation for friends, family and colleagues. There are few things more rewarding than racking your brains for the ideal venue, recommending it and then getting rave reviews.

Now with breadshoes, I can use my powers to help a broader audience find dining nirvana

about the recommendations

I believe in the old adage that ‘any publicity is good publicity’ so you won’t find any scathing reviews in the pages of breadshoes. If I don’t like a place I’m not going to write about it. Simple as that.

What you will find are links to restaurants, cafes, bars, wineries and food shops from bakers to fishmongers that bring a little joy to our lives – and deserve to be discovered by more people.

All reviews are conducted anonymously – fortunately I don’t need to go to any Ruth Richel-disguise-yourself lengths just yet. And I pay my own way [although am open to bribes - see contact details below].
